Loxidil (Minoxidil) 5 mg 100 tablets
Loxidil 5 mg is oral form of Minoxidil. It comes in tablet form and is usually used for the treatment of hypertension. However, oral Loxidil is also widely used for the treatment of hair loss. Oral Minoxil is up to 70% more effective than the topical solution, because it can be absorbed more efficiently by the body.
Beside of primary treatment of hypertension, Minoxidil is also used for the treatment of hair loss. It is effective in helping promote hair growth in both males and females with androgenic alopecia. About 40% of men experience hair regrowth after 3–6 months. Minoxidil must be used indefinitely for continued support of existing hair follicles and the maintenance of any experienced hair regrowth.
Oral Minoxidil can cause side effects including swelling of the face and extremities, rapid and irregular heartbeat, light headedness and heart problems. Therefore, you should always consult your GP or physician before you use this medication.
Indications:
Treatment of hypertension, fatigue, hair loss

Special precautions:
MI, pulmonary HTN, angina pectoris, chronic CHF, renal failure.
Contraindications:
Pheochromocytoma, dissecting aortic aneurysm, acute MI.
Drug interactions:
Profound orthostatic hypotension when used w/ guanethidine.
Use and dosage: Max dose – 1 mg/kg body weight
- Adults & children over 12 years – Initially 5 mg as single dose. The dose may be increased gradually to 10, 20, 40 mg in single or divided dose if necessary, to achieve optimum control, depending on the patient’s response & maintained by 3-9 mg daily in divided doses.
- Children under 12 years – 0.2 mg/kg body wt as single or divided doses & may be increased gradually to achieve optimum control.
